Create a Connection

Since ground was broken in 2004, much progress has been made along The Principal Riverwalk in downtown Des Moines, including:

  • Brenton Skating Plaza
  • Long Look Garden
  • Union Railroad Bridge
  • Hansen Triangle
  • Meredith Trail and
    connector to Gray’s Lake

The signature Center Street Bridge is open to the public. Construction on the pedestrian and multi-purpose trails, as well as the Court Avenue plazas will follow, with an eye toward completing the project in 2012.

Combined with the original funding provided by the Principal Financial Group Foundation, Inc., and additional support from the City of Des Moines, Vision Iowa, federal grants, many generous corporate and individual donors, The Principal Riverwalk is now 75 percent funded.

Help us pave the way. The Riverfront Development Authority invites you to create a connection by helping to support the building and maintenance of The Principal Riverwalk.
